Support
Most answers are also in the app: open Help (the question-mark icon). If something still doesn't work, write to us.
Please include your LAN Share version, your operating system on both computers, and what the host panel's Diagnostics says. We usually answer within a few working days, in English or Latvian.
The other computer doesn't show up
- LAN Share must be running on both computers, and both must be on the same network. Guest Wi-Fi networks often keep devices apart.
- The firewall must allow TCP and UDP port 45821. On Ubuntu with ufw enabled:
sudo ufw allow 45821(opens both). - You can always add a computer by its IP address (Hosts → + Host). If you changed the port, add it as
address:port. - Open the host's panel and run Diagnostics: it checks the address, the port and LAN Share on the other side, and tells you which step fails.
A transfer fails or is declined
- “Declined” means the receiver clicked Decline or did not answer within about 3 minutes.
- “Host not found” means the name could not be resolved on the network. Use the IP address instead.
- If the connection drops, send the same items again: the transfer continues where it stopped.
- A file that fails the SHA-256 check is not kept. Send it again.
Sharing with a phone
The phone must be on the same Wi-Fi as the computer. Scan the QR code with the phone's camera. The link works for 15 minutes; if it has expired, show a new code.
Purchases and LAN Share Pro
- Licence key: your licence key is in the e-mail from Lemon Squeezy. If you lost it or need to move it to another computer, write to us with the e-mail address you used to buy.
Security
Transfers between computers are encrypted (Noise protocol, ChaCha20-Poly1305), and trusted senders are recognised by their computer's key, not their IP address. If a computer's key changes (for example after reinstalling LAN Share), the app warns you; forget the old key in the host panel once you have checked it is the same computer. Sharing with a phone works through a private link on your own network that expires after 15 minutes. See the privacy policy for what data the app handles.
System requirements
- macOS 15 or later.
- Ubuntu 22.04 or later with GNOME (the AppIndicator extension is on by default in Ubuntu).
- Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit.
- Phones and tablets: any modern browser, no app needed.
