Privacy policy
LAN Share moves files between your own computers on your local network. It has no servers, no accounts and no analytics. This page explains exactly what data the app handles and where it goes.
Your files, text and history stay on your computers. The developer never receives them. The only time the app contacts a server on the internet is to activate or check a licence key (Lemon Squeezy).
Who is responsible
LAN Share is made by SIA KV Cache (reg. no. 40203786599), Pērnavas iela 39-40, Rīga, LV-1009, Latvia (“we”). Contact: [email protected].
Files and text you send
- Files, folders and text go directly from the sending computer to the receiving computer over your local network. They do not pass through any server, ours or anyone else's.
- The receiver sees the sender's computer name, the item names and sizes, and an optional message, and decides whether to accept.
- Transfers between computers running LAN Share are encrypted (Noise protocol, ChaCha20-Poly1305) unless you turn encryption off for old versions. Each computer creates its own key, which stays on that computer. The phone/browser page is plain HTTP and not encrypted: other devices on the same network could in principle observe what you share that way.
What other devices on your network can see
- To be found by other LAN Share computers, the app answers discovery requests on your local network with this computer's name. It listens on port 45821 (TCP and UDP).
- Computers you send to see your IP address, as with any network connection.
- When you share with a phone, your computer serves a temporary web page on your local network. The link contains a secret code and expires after 15 minutes. The phone connects directly to your computer.
Data stored on your computer
Settings, saved hosts and groups, trusted senders, the queue, folder-sync pairs and the transfer history (file names, sizes, hosts, times) are stored only on your computer, in the app's settings folder. They are never uploaded. You can delete them by removing the app and its settings folder. Folder sync keeps replaced files as versions in a .lanshare-versions folder for 30 days.
Purchases and licence keys
- Purchases: LAN Share Pro is sold through Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy collects what it needs to take payment and issue an invoice (such as your e-mail, billing country and payment details) under its own privacy policy. We can see the order details Lemon Squeezy provides to sellers, and use them only to support your purchase.
- Licence activation: when you enter a licence key, the app contacts
api.lemonsqueezy.comto activate it, and from time to time to check that it is still valid. It sends the licence key and this computer's name (so you can tell your activations apart). As with any internet request, Lemon Squeezy also sees your IP address. Nothing else is sent: no files, no file names, no history.
AI assistants (MCP)
If you connect an AI assistant such as Claude to LAN Share through MCP, the assistant can ask LAN Share for information like host names, file names and transfer history, and can send files you ask it to send. LAN Share itself runs locally, but what the assistant does with that information is governed by the assistant provider's own terms and privacy policy. MCP is off unless you turn it on or add it yourself.
What we do not do
- No analytics, telemetry, tracking or advertising.
- No accounts and no sign-in.
- No selling or sharing of personal data.
This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts or fonts. The hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses) for security and operation.
Your rights
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation you can ask what personal data we hold about you, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. In practice we hold very little: at most the order details from a direct purchase and any e-mails you send us. Write to the contact address above. You can also complain to the Latvian Data State Inspectorate (Datu valsts inspekcija).
Children
LAN Share does not collect personal data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
